STOTTESDON DAy 2

1 05 2012

Once again, lovely couple of hours in the company of fab children (& staff) who are thoroughly enjoying themselves and full of the day’s events. I got there just in time for a jumble auction where they could buy a range of junk materials to wrap an egg in to see whose egg was the winner when it was thrown from the top of the climbing wall. Some amazing, ingenious contraptions that would not have been out of place on Dragon’s Den. Chloe & Max were (eventually – due to great designs) joint winners.

Well – over to them:

Max Bryan     CHILL YOUR BEANS

Had lots of sweets and talked .The girls kept us awake until 10:50.We got them back when Bryan sprayed deodorant all of the place and the girls didn’t like the smell. Had cereals and toast. We did climbing and abseiling then archery. Then we did quad biking and we did a special course because there was only me and bryan and we were good at quading. Then we had lunch cheese and ham baguettes. Then we did the best thing canoeing and kayaking and we jumped in at the end. Then I made the shower really hot so nobody could go in it, Ha ha.

P.S   We have lots of sweets.

 Mrs L

It was May Day, the merry morning etc. Ha! It was a wet May Day, a very , very, wet one. We experienced qualities of wetness never before experienced, ranging from climbing and abseiling , in the rain, to canoeing, in the rain and finally jumping into the lake, in the rain. By that time we were past caring.

It was ALL GOOD.

Leah capsized , got very wet and still jumped in the lake afterwards?. Truly crazy, yes?

Bryan and Max whizzed around like cool dudes and the A team canoe, Chloe, Abs, Issie and me, who were all over the place to start with, got used to it and became an efficient fighting force.

 Isabelle

I loved it today we started with archery then rock climbing then abseiling it was so scary Holly said I had a death grip on the rope. For lunch we had toasties then Hope went to do their extras I rode penny, leah rode black jack,  abi rode Scooby and chloe had simon .While we did that the boys went on quad bikes.

Early morning rise at 5:50 for me and Leah [lied in for a wile]

At breakfast we all had toast and cereal it was yummy! After that we did Archery and the rock climbing wall. Just before lunch we went horse riding in the village. I rode Scobby, Leah rode Blackjack, Chloe rode Simon and Izzy rode Penny. For lunch we hade cheese and ham toastiest.

After Lunch we went to the lake at Ginny hole and did canoeing and kayaking and I got wet wet wet and I was walking around like I pooed myself because my joggers were full of water.

For dinner we had jacket potatoes with different fillings like tuna and cheese.

After tea we had this challenge were we had to design a egg holder to stop the egg  breaking and then we dropped them of the climbing wall.

 SEE YOU TOMMOZ BYE!

 Leah

Today was great! An early start at about 5:50 and some lush breakfast!

Today we did abseiling, rock climbing, pony trekking and water activities!

In water activities we did canoeing and kayaking, I went in a kayak and fell in, trust me to be the only one! I rode a horse called Black Jack and he was lovely. I did both abseiling and rock climbing, I was the only one in my group who got to the top. Abseiling was really, really fun.

I am missing everyone very much and looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Well, there you go – a great day had by all despite the rain and still more to come. Can’t wait to hear all their news!!!

STOTTESDON

30 04 2012

Well, finally got to a computer to share the day’s events. I have spent a wonderful couple of hours at Stottesdon with the children from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and they are very settled and happy. They have had a busy and thoroughly enjoyable day and you can read their thoughts and feelings below. This has come straight from them, so enjoy reading and I’ll update you tomorrow around this time again.

MAX BRYAN

Arrived at 10:30 and went up to the dorms. Unpacked our stuff and went straight to Ginny Hole  to do our activities, orienteering, high Ropes; Jacobs ladder and leap of faith. On orienteering me and Bryan finished in  half an hour. Had lunch pasta. In the after noon we did zip line and jousting. We liked the jousting the best, because Bryan hit me in the head with the stick. Then we had dinner – sausages and chips.

Then we went to Ginny hole and played kick rounder and got muddy. At night a lovely hot aero chocolate  with the other school. We wrote this in our playing time!

P.S In the mean time  were chilling out with a can of cold drink.

 Chloe

I am having a fun time and I am really excited about the activities we are going to do and I hope you are all having fun with Mr. Thomas and the teachers are very nice and so are the leaders here. They are awesome and I remember all of them still and also I have done the leap of faith but didn’t get to the top, Jacob  ladder , sip line and javelins and they have all been fun and I hope some one will look at a the school blog and tell my mum to have a look . Also I am making friend so I am really happy.

P.S in the mean time chilling up I are dormitory’s with all the girls.

 Isabelle

Its so awesome at Stottesden it is so awesome. I said I will not do the leap of faith but  I saw one of Corvedale  and went straight away its so fun tomorrow we’re doing pony trekking . The zip wire was fun but when I had the second go I hit my cheek bone with the clip on the harnis .  We did kick rounders and everyone fell over except for me and Chloe. Miss Hudson and Mrs Leach actually went on the zip line .

 Abigail

Today was really cool, we’re all having a great time! Today I did the leap of faith and it was coolio. Can’t wait for what the next two days have in store. Stottesdon rocks

Miss you Mummy and Daddy, Happy B-day for tomorrow. XXX

 Leah

Today was really good we did the leap of faith first but I did not reach the pole but it was fun! Me and Abigail did the Jacobs Ladder together we got up to the second step but we could not reach the third. We did jousting and it was really fun! At about 6:15 we went down to Ginny Hole and we played kick Rounder’s and I got absolutely minging!!! The hot chocolate is well nice! Miss you Mummy and Daddy, don’t miss you Jack and Scott!!!!

Mrs. Leach

Miss Hudson has actually brought suntan lotion with her. That is what I call optimism!

By 19.00 all  of our immaculate young ladies had a fair layer of Stottesden mud over most of their surface area due to a spirited game of kick rounders on what was , basically, a bog. It goes without saying that Max and Bryan had their share but that was not half as amusing.

To add to the boys list of what we ate I might add quantities of Haribo( large bags), Mars Bars , Curly Wurlies etc, etc from the brilliant tuckshop. Plus hot chocolate ….and , as I type, at 19.25 what, if it were some hours later , could only be described as a midnight feast has just commenced …….

Well – there you – they sound very happy. Will keep you posted….

SAFEGUARDING

16 04 2012

We are extremely serious about safeguarding at Hope School and following an audit of our safeguarding procedures with external advice from the Local Authority, we are reviewing and/or implementing several key policies. At present these documents are in draft form and are available electronically here or as a hard copy from the school office. Please do take the time to read them and let us have any comments by Monday 23rd April. Following this, they will be ratified by the governing body and will become our policies that inform current practise.
We are involving all of the children in knowing and understanding the anti-bullying and behaviour and discipline behaviour in the first instance, so please do also talk to them about their views as we value them and wish for each and every child at Hope School to know how we keep them safe and to understand their own responsibilities for keeping themselves and others safe at Hope School.

A LOVELY END TO TERM

15 04 2012

A belated thank you to everyone for their support through to the end of the Spring Term. It was not an easy term but with the community involvement, all at Hope School felt privileged and proud to be a part of this wonderful school.

Thank you to all who attended the Church Service. It was an extremely special and moving way to the end the term and the children really led the way and showed us that they are the future. The hot cross buns and tea and coffee were a welcome reward back at school.

Following on from the Service on the Friday was the Easter egg competition and Egg Rolling Extravaganza on the Saturday. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning and it was heartwarming again, to see the commitment and strength of the local community backing their local school. So many new faces and returning visitors, all chatting, spending their pennies and taking great care and attention to detail in decorating their flag for the Jubilee bunting (A big thank you to Kate & John for organising this). They were very deserving winners of the enormous Easter Egg kindly donated by Josh & Libby’s Grandad. (I wonder if they have munched their way through it all yet?!)

A fitting recognition of the special and unique aspects that are at the heart of Hope was celebrated with the publication of our Church inspection report which is available through the link below. Enjoy reading.

SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICE VISIT – 13.01.12

15 01 2012

Robin from the School Library Service visited us today with over 3,000 books on the mobile van. He kindly came into our Assembly and shared his passion for reading and why reading is important to him. He answered many of the children’s questions and he was very impressed by their knowledge and understanding of a range of texts. Each class then took it in turns to go onto the van to choose books for themselves and the class. Non-fiction books were very popular with the topics ranging from animals to astronauts, transformers to transport and a whole host of others in between.
