SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICE VISIT – 13.01.12

15 01 2012

Robin from the School Library Service visited us today with over 3,000 books on the mobile van. He kindly came into our Assembly and shared his passion for reading and why reading is important to him. He answered many of the children’s questions and he was very impressed by their knowledge and understanding of a range of texts. Each class then took it in turns to go onto the van to choose books for themselves and the class. Non-fiction books were very popular with the topics ranging from animals to astronauts, transformers to transport and a whole host of others in between.

A BUSY END OF TERM

27 12 2011

A huge thank you to everyone involved in Hope School for the help, dedication and support received over the past Autumn term. The children have really benefitted from the wide range of opportunities afforded to them and have gained many real-life experiences that will support their life-long learning. It is sometimes difficult to keep up to date with reporting all that has gone on within the school but the weekly bulletin is an excellent way of gaining a snapshot of events that have occurred or indeed, that are coming up, so do feel free to browse the bulletins from the link at the top.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday and look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Wednesday 4th January 2012.

CAROL SERVICE AT HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, HOPE

16 12 2011

It was lovely to welcome so many parents and friends of Hope to our annual carol service. It felt particulary festive walking to Church amidst the beautiful snowy landscape. We are certainly very lucky to be surrounded by such beautiful  scenery.

Our thanks to the Open the Book team,  who joined some of our pupils to present the Christmas advent story. The childrens’ voices sounded wonderful as they sang favourite carols, accompanied by Mrs Benting on the organ.  It was also a delight to hear the recorder group and Max, Ben and Leo play their violins.

The build up to Christmas at Hope is traditionally a time of preparation and celebration of the birth of Jesus but also a time for great excitement and the making of fond memories, with parties, concerts, the carol service, a visit to the pantomime, not to mention meeting Father Christmas. I felt particularly priviledged to take all the pupils to sing to the elderly residents at Holy Cross Residential Home this year too.  From the many comments of praise and gratitude received, I know it brought a lot of pleasure to the residents.

As 2011 draws to a close, may I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support this year and on behalf of the staff and pupils at Hope, wish you all a very happy Christmas!

SINGING TO THE SENIOR CITIZENS

15 12 2011

Our penultimate day of the term found us undertaking a new and exciting adventure organised by Mrs. Mosedale. The whole school visited Holy Cross Residential Home in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury to sing to the senior citizens who live there. We sang all of the songs from our Christmas Performance of ‘The Match Girl’ followed by several Christmas Carols. The children were beautifully behaved and the singing was amazing. Several of the senior citizens sang along with the songs they knew and staff stopped to watch and join in too. This was a wonderful experience and one which allowed the children to show respect and maturity. We were very proud of each and every one of them.

Following our dinner, we continued on to Theatre Severn to enjoy Aladdin. The staff and children laughed all the way through and had a fabulous time. Well done to everyone involved.

FARMERS’ MARKET

24 11 2011

Many families and members of the community attended the fantastic Farmers Market which was held at the School on Thursday. All the children, staff and a great number of very welcome volunteers had dedicated a lot of time to make sure this was the success it was by organising and baking delicious goodies leading up to the market, including chocolate apples, fruit kebabs and apple crumble! Radio Shropshire sent their roving reporter, Sam Fleet, along to cover the event and this was broadcast both on the news and in its own special slot on the Radio in the early evening. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who volunteered, helped out and attended the event making it such a success. As well as the invaluable learning experiences offered to the children throughout the organisation and holding of the event, we also raised in the region of £180.00. Fantastic!

COME TO OUR FARMERS’MARKET THIS THURSDAY 24 NOVEMBER

20 11 2011

It will be another busy week at Hope as everyone prepares for Thursday. Fliers have been posted around the locality and we are hoping lots of people will come to our school to support our first ever Farmers’ Market. There will be a wide range of stalls selling different produce; sausages, cheeses, bread, Christmas cards,  fruit kebabs and delicious apple and cinnemon cookies to name just a few. Refreshments will also be on sale. So bring your pennies and your friends-all welcome!
