Thomas and Christian reporting from the Shirehall
30 01 2008Today we went to the Shirehall in Shrewsbury. We started chanting on the bus on the way there, and we couldn’t wait to get our signs to hold. We got the signs to hold when we got off the bus, and stated to parade towards the Shirehall. We took a shortcut across the grass, and protested right in front of the building. Then some of us went in to the building, and went onto a higher level in there. We were not allowed our signs inside the building, but I don’t know why. I think it was so we didn’t break anything. We were chanting stuff like ‘save Hope school’ and ‘small schools make a big difference’. We were singing stuff like ‘go go go away’ and ‘glory, glory, save hope school’. The one song went like this: ‘Go go go away, with your daft ideas. Hope school are here to stay, with a flea in your ear!’ How we felt (By Christian) I hoped that our School wouldn’t close. I was excited, but I had a headache from all of the noise. (By Thomas) I felt like my arms were going to drop when I was holding the one sign, but luckily I was allowed to hold a different sign. I had a sore throat from all of the chanting, but it was worth it. What the teachers thought Mrs. Cartlidge said that she was very proud of us. She had been listening to us on the radio, and loads of people had been phoning her. The children and adults have cleared a bit of breathing space, but we haven’t won yet. Hopefully we will win! I hope your protest was successful in changing the minds of those in charge. It would be a shame to have your school closed after all that effort. Just wanted to let you know that there’s at least one person “across the pond” that’s cheering for you!
